The Town of Grand Island Community Center will remain closed to community groups through January 1, 2021.
We will re-evaluate Community Center usage prior to this date. This decision was made at the Town Board workshop on September 8, 2020, with input from the Recreation Department and Golden Age Center. Please understand this decision was not easy, as we discussed different options. However, due to a number of factors, it will remain closed to community groups.
The Community Center will only be used for Recreation Department programs, Golden Age Center programs, and government needs such as voting.
Without being able to use the school facilities for programs that the Recreation Department normally would, we had to move programs to the Community Center.
Also, due to COVID-19, the facility must be thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected between each group, which is another limiting factor.
